I did reattempt this process, but exactly the same thing happened. However, even pressing those keys did not restart the laptop. However, after the restart, instead of the Win XP installation starting, I get an error message which says "NO BOOTMGR FOUND, PRESS CRTL+ALT+DEL TO RESTART". After plugging the pendrive into the laptop, I entered BIOS mode and changed the boot order so that the first booting device was the pendrive. I had a copy of my Win XP disc on a portable HDD which I copied to a 8GB pendrive.
However, as my RAM upgrading plan has got stuck, I decided it would be better to install Win XP on it for a few days (until I can know if I can do the RAM upgrade).
